GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Anabel de la Rosa of the Dominican Republic suffered from a serious heart defect as an infant.

In 1995 she came to Grand Rapids, with the help of Healing the Children, to have life-saving surgery.

The organization "envisions a world where every child has access to medical care," according to its website.

The 17-year-old returned to West Michigan on Tuesday to thank her doctors and her host family.

Watch the video above as Anabel and Pat Williams, her host mother, were in the 24 Hour News 8 Daybreak studios on Tuesday for an interview.
