GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A 13-year-old boy arrested for allegedly holding a woman against her will and threatening to rape her has been involved in similar incidents before, court records show.
Kevin Cage was just 10 years old, about a week shy of turning 11, when he and another suspect were accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 at a home on College Avenue NE in Grand Rapids SE.
Juvenile court records show a history that you might expect from a career criminal.
He was 11, a few months after that first sexual assault charge, when he stole two cars, caused a crash while driving a stolen car, left the scene of the crash and then refused to obey a police officer.
Then in September 2010, a few days after bonding out of juvenile detention in those cases, the 11-year-old's trouble got worse.
Cage was known by his nickname J-40 when he and three other suspects took turns raping a 15-year-old girl at a home in Grand Rapids.
The victim's cousin testified that the suspects used lights from their cell phones so they could see the girl in the dark. A witness said they raped her until she passed out.
Cage was convicted of sexual assault and several other charges and ordered into counseling and to live in a foster home.
The latest alleged crime happened about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 500 block of Sheldon Avenue SE. The 13-year-old was among a group who threw bricks at the home, police said.
Then, police say, the suspects got inside, where they allegedly held a woman against her will for a short time and threatened to rape her.
Police arrested 24-year-old Fitzpatrick Eugene Williams along with the 13-year-old. Williams was arraigned Friday.
Detectives say they've turned over the case to the Kent County Prosecutor's Office, which is expected to decide next week whether to charge Cage as an adult.
