Silent Observer 2012: 201 crimes solved

Also paid out $12,000 in reward money

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Silent Observer helped solve 201 crimes in 2012, according to a report the organization released Monday.

Of those 201 crimes, 163 people were arrested, and Silent Observer paid $12,000 in reward money for crime-solving information.

Among the crimes solved:

  • The man who robbed four motels and hotels in southeast Grand Rapids
  • Sixteen people wanted for crimes such as aggravated assault, aiding and abetting, larceny, home invasion, retail fraud, receiving and concealing stolen merchandise, and sex offenders not in compliance
  • 23 people were arrested for selling meth, cocaine, marijuana and heroin, leading to the removal of $214,000 worth of drugs from the streets

During the past 40 years, Silent Observer has worked with law enforcement to help solve crimes. In 2012, it was a finalist for the WOOD TV8 Connecting with Community Award.
