GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A man who had been assaulted and shot walked into a Grand Rapids party store Monday evening.
Grand Rapids police told 24 Hour News 8 they were called to respond to an assault at Sam's Party Store, 1034 Bridge St. NW, after the victim walked in suffering from bruises.
When officers arrived around 10:30 p.m. to render aid, they noticed that the 22-year-old victim had been shot in the back.
A witness told 24 Hour News 8 the victim was talking to emergency responders at the scene before he was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He is sedated, in and out of consciousness, at the hospital, which is preventing him from telling police more about the investigation.
Neighbors in the area told 24 Hour News 8 they heard several gunshots before the man went to the store.
Officers said they followed a blood trail to nearby Pine Street but still aren't certain as to where the victim was shot.
