GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Grand Rapids Police Department is searching for two young teenagers accused of sexually assaulting and robbing a woman.
Police were notified of the incident by a local hospital on Monday night.
The 21-year-old victim told officers the incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. Monday near Valley Avenue and Fulton Street NW.
The victim told police that the juvenile males approached her and tried to engage her in conversation several times. They then physically and sexually assaulted her.
The woman said the suspects also stole her multi-colored backpack. That item was later recovered by authorities.
Police did not release the extent of her injuries.
The victim's brother told 24 Hour News 8 on Tuesday his sister was at the police department for some time, giving them info for the composite sketch of one of the suspects.
Investigators described the suspects as:
-- A 14- or 15-year-old male with Asian features, about 5-foot-4, with a pudgy body. He had shorter black hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and medium-colored jeans.
-- A 13- or 15-year-old possibly Hispanic male, 5 feet 4 inches tall and having a skinny body. He was last seen wearing a light-colored shirt and riding a BMX bike.
"I was thinking of an older man or a bigger guy that was taking advantage of a college student, but to hear that they are teenagers, that's a twist. That's a different spin on things," said one concerned neighbor who asked not to be identified.
Late Tuesday afternoon, a handyman changed the lock on the house that the woman rents, family members told 24 Hour News 8.
"It's scary," said the neighbor. "It could be you. It could be me."
