GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A Grand Rapids Griffin arrested while wearing a Teletubby costume for "super drunk" driving has entered into a plea deal.
Riley Michael Sheahan, a 20-year-old center from St. Catherines, Ontario, was originally pulled over on Oct. 29 for driving the wrong-way down a one-way street in downtown Grand Rapids.
His blood alcohol content (BAC) level was .30 at the time of his arrest, police said, and he was wearing a purple Teletubby costume.
Thursday, Sheahan pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle with a BAC of .17 or more -- Michigan's "super drunk" law. He was sentenced to one year probation and $1,325 in fines.
As part of the deal, charges of display/lend/use of a forged or fake ID, refusal to take a portable breathalyzer test, and driving the wrong way on a one-way road were dropped.
The fake ID charge was originally filed because Sheahan had identification of 23-year-old teammate Brendan Smith in the front of his wallet at the time of the arrest, police said. Sheahan admitted to police he used the ID to get into bars. Sheahan's own ID was in the back of his wallet, police later discovered.
Sheahan, the Detroit Red Wings' No. 1 draft pick in 2010, has four goals, four assists and 14 penalty minutes for the Griffins in 20 games during his first professional season, as of Thursday.
