GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The victim of a Wednesday evening robbery sustained a wound to his face.
It happened before 8:30 p.m. in the area of Page Street and Penn Avenue NE, just north of Leonard Street NE, in Grand Rapids.
Police say a group of young men pushed the victim to the ground, robbed him and left, leaving him with a wound above his eye.
"When I came, he was laying on the ground moaning, but they was already by his side. I didn't know what was going on," said witness Dwight Washington.
The 23-year-old victim was taken to the hospital. Police are not sure if his wounds came from a ricocheted bullet or if they were otherwise obtained in the altercation.
Though police know there was a firearm involved, they couldn't say for certain if it was discharged.
A police K-9 unit was called in to attempt a track, but was unsuccessful. Police also searched a nearby residence.
The victim's jacket and cellphone were stolen during the robbery.
