GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The man who bit off a woman's nose last year pleaded no contest to a charge of mayhem Tuesday morning.
Stephen Medawis got into an argument with Polly Snyder at a house party in Grand Rapids in January 2012, police said. The situation escalated and ended when Medawis bit off her nose . Snyder, 44, called 911 afterwards, and has undergone extensive reconstructive surgery.
"I feel sorry for that girl," he told 24 Hour News 8 in January. "I'm sorry it happened."
Medawis, 56, is scheduled to be sentenced on August 1. Until then, he is being held without bond at Kent County Jail.
Mayhem is punishable by up to 10 years behind bars. But because of a criminal history and other charges, Medawis could spend the rest of his life in prison.
