GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Van Andel Arena is once again North America's number one mid-size performance venue.

According to a news release, based on box office figures during the first half of 2011, the SMG-managed Van Andel Arena ranks as a top venue in mid-year charts put together by Billboard, Pollstar and Venues Today.

"Being listed as high as we are in these three industry publications is yet again a great honor," said Richard MacKeigan the SMG Regional General Manager for Van Andel Arena and DeVos Place. "These rankings are a testament to the incredible support we continue to receive from our community, the great promoters we work with and the value of the SMG network."

Van Andel Arena has had a terrific 2011 so far with a total of 36 shows. Six of those shows, including Winter Jam, Trans-Siberian Orchestra (twice), Lady Gaga, Bob Seger, and Kid Rock were sellout events.

Billboard Magazine ranked the venue as the 6th highest grossing arena worldwide. According to a news release, the top five venues are all overseas and that makes Van Andel Arena the No. 1 venue in North America.

The Van Andel Arena also placed at number 55 worldwide on Pollstar Magazine's Top 100 Arena Venues of all sizes in it's July 18, 2011 issue.

Plus, Venues Today named Van Andel Arena the 6th highest grossing arena worldwide in it's July 2011 issue.

DeVos Performance Hall also showed up on the Venues Today listing coming in at 19th as the only Michigan venue that hosts up to four different professional arts groups.

Both Van Andel Arena and DeVos Performance Hall are managed by SMG . SMG has provided management serves to more than 220 public assembly facilities worldwide and provides venue management, sales, marketing, event booking and programming, construction and more. SMG has managed Van Andel Arena since 1996 and DeVos Place since 1994.
