Man shot in GR apt, dies; woman held

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A man was shot and killed after a domestic dispute erupted in a Grand Rapids apartment while three children were inside.

Around 7:30 p.m. Christmas night, police were called to the 100 block of Leonard NE where a woman said she shot her boyfriend inside a nearby apartment.

Darwin DeMarcus Weathers, 34, was found critically wounded in the driveway of a house at 57 Leonard NE. He was rushed to a hospital but later died from the gunshot, an autopsy confirmed. Police said Weathers recently moved from Saginaw to Grand Rapids.

The woman, 30, was taken into custody.

Police told 24 Hour News 8 the three children, all under the age of 10, were in the apartment at the time of the shooting, but it's not clear if they witnessed it.
