GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A Grand Rapids man has been sentenced for trying to rob a party store in early 2012.
Brandon Slanger, who in November 2012 pleaded guilty to assault with intent to rob while armed, was sentenced Thursday to six years and eight months to 20 years in prison.
Slanger tried to rob Spike & Mike's Party Store at the corner of Fulton Street and Diamond Avenue on March 22, 2012. A customer at the store saw what Slanger was doing and managed to detain him. The brief scuffle was caught on the store's surveillance camera.
Though Slanger had implied he was armed, he did not have a weapon and no one was hurt.
Slanger has a criminal record dating back to 1988, including felony larceny and robbery charges.
