GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A current inmate will spend at least 18 more years in prison for a 2007 homicide.
Alvon Davis was sentenced Tuesday for one count of second-degree murder and a felony firearms charge after entering into a plea agreement in the April 2007 shooting death of 19-year-old Russell Griffin.
Davis was sentenced to 18 to 40 years for the murder charge and two years for the felony firearms charge. Those sentences will be served concurrently.
When he was charged with Griffin's murder in November 2012, Davis was already in the Ionia prison on an unrelated crime.
This was one of two cold cases recently cracked by the Kent Metro Cold Case Team to go to sentencing Tuesday. In the other, a woman was sentenced in the 2004 death of her boyfriend.
