GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A Grand Rapids man has admitted to trying to rob Spike & Mike's Party Store in March.
Brandon Slanger pleaded guilty to assault with intent to rob while armed.
Slanger tried to rob the party store at the corner of Fulton Street and Diamond Avenue on March 22. A customer at the store saw what Slanger was doing and managed to detain him. The brief scuffle was caught on the store's surveillance camera.
Though Slanger had implied he was armed, he did not have a weapon and no one was hurt.
Court records show that as part of a plea deal, the prosecutor will recommend a minimum sentence of between four and a quarter and seven years in prison and a maximum of 20 years.
Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 10, 2013.
Slanger has a criminal record dating back to 1988, including felony larceny and robbery charges
