GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A chain-reaction crash near Grand Rapids Community College showed what could happen on steep hills that turned slick after the sun went down.
"A bunch of cars just slid down the hill," driver Michelle Leman told 24 Hour News 8 Tuesday. She said "three or four cars" crashed into her.
The crash around 7 p.m. at Lyon Street and Bostwick Avenue NE included four wrecks and 10 vehicles, including a Grand Rapids city plow truck.
"I started sliding, started counter-steering," the unidentified plow driver told us, just feet away from his truck that ended up on a curb.
An officer on scene admitted there could have been more vehicles involved, but he only counted the number where drivers stayed to file a police report.
"You go to stop, and they would just spin, and like ping-pong off each other's cars," driver Mary Lehmann said.
Two city buses and a hospital shuttle were also a part of the crash. No one was injured.
In some hilly places, Grand Rapids police blocked drivers from going down hills to prevent them from sliding and causing an accident.
