GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Though the flu has hit hard and fast this season, its spread in Kent County appears to be slowing, according to a Tuesday afternoon news release from the health department.
There were 127 new cases of flu confirmed in Kent County in the last week, according to the release -- a 43% decrease in the number of new cases during the previous week.
That brings the total number of confirmed cases since mid-December to 590.

Additionally, emergency facilities are seeing a slight decrease in the number of patients exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
But, the health department warned, there may yet be a resurgence.
Again, the health department advised residents to get vaccinated. It also advised preventative measures like washing hands regularly and staying home from work or school if you are ill.
The health department recommends getting vaccinated against the flu. It offers vaccine injections for $25 and nasal mist for $32. Those wanting to make an appointment can call 616.632.7200.
