GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A 54-year-old Grand Rapids woman was sentenced to prison Tuesday for shooting her boyfriend to death in 2004.
Joyce Renee Phillips was arrested in December and pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
On the morning of Feb. 12, 2004, Phillips shot Michael Anthony Richardson to death in front of a home at 612 Liberty SW in Grand Rapids. He was 44.
Phillips originally told police she was inside her residence at 616 Liberty St. SW when the shooting occurred and did not see what happened. The case remained unsolved until the Kent Metro Cold Case Team re-opened the investigation.
Detectives learned she and Richardson had a physical altercation in front of 612 Liberty. She was re-interviewed and confessed.
Phillips will spend between 9-15 years in prison.
