GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Wanted: One person with professional credentials for a part-time job and part-time pay.
And if selected, you'll have to convince voters you deserve it in about nine months.
That could be one reason for the dilemma faced by Grand Rapids city commissioners as they look for a new city comptroller.
Commissioners reopened the application process for the job Tuesday morning, after just two candidates applied to fill the remainder of the term of former Comptroller Donijo DeJonge, who resigned last year.
Neither of the candidates is a certified public accountant, something not required by the city charter, but preferred by commissioners.
The seat is up for election this November.
The comptroller is basically the city's in-house accountant, auditing the city books and making sure the bills get paid.
Voter were asked to get rid of the position by amending the city's 97-year-old charter last fall.
The duties would have been turned over to the city's appointed fiscal manager.
But voters wanted to keep it.
So if you are interested in the job, applications are now being accepted by the city clerk's office until March 25.
Grand Rapids City Clerk Lauri Parks told 24 Hour News 8 she plans on updating the information in the link by Wednesday.
