GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A traffic stop turned into a three-car crash early Sunday morning in downtown Grand Rapids, sending one person to the hospital and injuring two others.
Around 2:45 a.m. Michigan State Police pulled over the driver of a Ford Focus on Wealthy that had been weaving in and out of traffic on southbound US-131.
But as the troopers approached, the driver took off. The car ran a red light at the corner of Division and Wealthy, striking a Ford Bronco. The Bronco then hit another SUV on Wealthy.
The Focus stopped after hitting a light pole on the northeast end of the intersection.
The driver of the Focus suffered a broken leg and was taken to the hospital. Two other people were treated for minor injuries.
Police believe alcohol is a factor in the crash.
