GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Lance Byers, the 42-year-old father gunned down in an apparent case of road rage, will be laid to rest Thursday.

He was likely on his way to work at the state Department of Human Services on Feb. 21 when a minor traffic accident near Saint Mary's Hospital escalated into a violent confrontation. Passersby stopped to help, but he died at the scene.

Grand Rapids police identified two people of interest in the case, though they have not yet made any arrests.

Services for Byers are set for noon on Thursday at Messiah Missionary Church, 513 Henry St. SE, with visitation from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gillespie-Moody Memorial Chapel, 1865 Eastern Ave. SE.

A fund has been set up for Byers' daughter Emma. Anyone wishing to contribute can give money to the Lance Byers Memorial at Lake Michigan Credit Union locations.
