GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Investigators continue to look into the exact cause of an early Tuesday morning blaze that damaged a dentist office but injured no one.

Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, 2609 Breton Road SE, sustained damage to its roof, plus smoke and water damage inside after the fire began around 6:45 a.m. The loss is estimated at around $360,000 for the building, plus contents.

A passerby reported the blaze and Grand Rapids firefighters arrived at 6:49 a.m. The building's roof collapsed about 10 to 15 minutes after they arrived.

The fire was controlled within about an hour, and extinguished by about 11 a.m. The roof's collapse prevented firefighters from battling the blaze from inside the building.

The accidental fire began in the south end of the building, Grand Rapids fire investigator Ric Dokter told 24 Hour News 8.

A family member of the owner said someone was in the building between 6-9 p.m. Monday -- the same time when the area lost power due to a faulty underground cable.

Dr. Don Vander Linde told 24 Hour News 8 he's looking for a temporary office for his practice, and said the records of his 3,000 patients are safe, as they were housed off-site.
