GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Downtown Development Authority approved a liquor license for the Downtown MarketĀ  in Grand Rapids at their meeting Wednesday morning.

The liquor license will not include individual vendors.

It will transform the Downtown Market into a venue space, serving alcohol at events and parties.

"We're going to have a wonderful event room on the second floor that can be used for things like food demonstrations, parties, events and fundraising events," Kayem Dunn of the DDA Board said.

Individual restaurants that join the Market will be expected to get their own liquor licenses.

Dunn said the Downtown Market is on target to open July 1.
