GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A 21-year-old man was charged in a Grand Rapids drunk driving, hit-and-run accident that left an 8-year-old Detroit girl dead and left two other siblings hospitalized.
Bryon Juarez is accused of being drunk and driving an SUV that ran a red light and crashed into a small car carrying six people at the corner of Hall and Buchanan SW on Sunday afternoon.
The 8-year-old, Dayma Roblero, died at the scene. Five others were taken to the hospital to be treatment. Diyami Roblero, 4, was seriously injured and Bibna Roblero, 10, is recuperating. Both remain in the hospital.
After the crash, the driver of the SUV and his front seat passenger got out of the vehicle they were in and ran away from the scene.
Juarez, police said, is the driver. He is officially charged with operating while intoxicated causing death and failing to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault causing death. He's currently in the Kent County Jail.
On Sept. 13, Juarez was ticketed in Grand Rapids for driving without a license, and he does not currently have a valid Michigan driver's license.
The front-seat passenger, Marco Coronado-Augustin, 25, was charged with resisting or obstructing an officer. He also faces a bench warrant unrelated to this case. He posted bond on these charges.
