GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Humane Society of Kent County staff this weekend will celebrate the one-year rescue of a cat that suffered burns on one-third of his body.
Hadley disappeared from his home in late June last year. Three days later a passerby found him critically injured near Turner Avenue NW, between Ann and Leonard streets. Someone had soaked the animal in accelerant and set him on fire.
The cat was returned to his owner who then took Hadley to the humane society.
Hadley had burns on his ears, neck, back and legs, as well as a severe infection.
The humane society's staff was unsure if they could save Hadley, but they wanted to try. So they went to the media, and people from all around the world pitched in with donations totally more than $20,000.
Hadley underwent multiple surgeries and has since recovered. He is now the humane society's mascot.
