GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The body of the man found floating in the Grand River has been identified.
A Michigan Department of Transportation crew spotted a body Thursday morning in the Grand River under an I-96 bridge in Grand Rapids.
The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Timothy Stark. An autopsy indicates "probable drowning, however toxicology results are still pending," according to a news release.
Authorities said they don't suspect foul play, but said Stark was known for hanging out around that area.
Authorities arrived around 9:46 a.m. and taped off the area near Riverside Park across the street from the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Stark's body was found underneath the eastbound lane of the freeway.
The body was floating face-down in the water when MDOT workers first saw it.
"It did not appear that he had been in the water for an extended period of time," Payne said.
The Grand Rapids Police Department Major Case Team, along with 11 detectives and a medical examiner were sent to the scene.
"Maybe the next of kin, once we are able to determine that, might be able to give us an idea of why he was in this area and what occurred here," Payne said.
Anyone with more information is asked to contact GRPD at 616.456.3400.
