GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A Battle Creek man died a day after he crashed his motorcycle into his son's bike on a Grand Rapids highway, state police told 24 Hour News 8.

Dennis Vanwinkle and David Youmans were on their way to the Blessing of the Bikes in Baldwin when the wreck occurred around 11:20 a.m. May 15 on U.S. 131, south of Leonard Street.

The father was thrown from his motorcycle after it rear-ended his son's cycle, slid across the pavement and hit a guard rail. Youmans, 41, also of Battle Creek, maintained control of his motorcycle and was not injured.

Vanwinkle, 59, was transported to Spectrum Health and passed away the next day. An autopsy is scheduled to determine his exact cause of death.
