GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Nothing says summer like a dip in the pool, and once again, city pools will be open this summer through a donation program by community leaders.

At noon on Wednesday, Mayor George Heartwell, city commissioners and other community leaders were at the Richmond Park pool to kick off the swimming season.

Among the donors to the Grand Rapids Parks & Rec Department are Alticor, the Dan and Pam DeVos Foundation, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

On Wednesday, Blue Cross announced a $15,000 donation for a program that will affect 350 kids between 10-16.

The city said it costs about $750,000 to keep the pools open all summer, and they're still looking for $300,000.

The City has six outdoor pools with heated water and play areas for children.

The pools are located at:

  • Briggs Park (Lafayette and Knapp NE)
  • Campau Park (S. Division and Delaware SE)
  • Highland Park (Grand and Capen NE)
  • Lincoln Park (Bridge and Marion NW)
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Park (Fuller and Franklin SE)
  • Richmond Park (Richmond and Tamarack NW)
