GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A customer at a Grand Rapids party store broke up a robbery attempt by a man who implied he had a weapon.
The would-be thief tried to rob Spike & Mike's, 967 Fulton St., shortly after 10 a..m. March 22.
Despite the man implying he had a weapon, the customer detained the suspect until police arrived and arrested him.
The incident was seen on the store's surveillance camera.
The robber did not actually have a weapon and no one was hurt.
The suspect, 38-year-old Brandon Slanger, was arrested at the scene.
He was arraigned Monday with assault with intent to rob while armed. His bond was set at $250,000.
Slanger has a criminal record dating back to 1988, including felony larceny and robbery charges.
