GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - An 18-year-old was arraigned on multiple charges related to a cab driver shooting in the city early Tuesday morning.
Jonathan Allen was charged with assault with intent to rob while armed, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, and a felony weapons charge for allegedly shooting a 43-year-old Metro Cab driver around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
According to police, Allen called for a cab then tried to rob the driver at gunpoint. When the cabbie said he had no cash because he was doing all credit card business, the shooter shot once into the taxi.
The shot went through the seat and hit the driver's leg. He's been released from the hospital.
Last fall, Allen pleaded guilty to an assault-and-battery charge, and has also been in trouble for probation violation and refusing to obey and officer.
If Allen is in fact the guy who shot the cabbie, he committed the crime close to home. Police said he lives in the 300 block of Richard Terrace, which is the next street over.
