GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A $1 million bond has been set in the case of a Grand Rapids man charged with the kidnapping of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter who remains missing.
It has been four days now, and still no sign of Jozlynn Martinez. She was last seen in her bed at 11 p.m. Monday. Her mother, Consuela Martinez, contacted police after not being able to find Malmberg -- her live-in boyfriend -- and her daughter on Tuesday.
24 Hour News 8 talked Friday morning to Consuela Martinez. She is staying at her mother's home and waiting by the phone for any news.
24 Hour News 8 showed Thursday night Consuela Martinez leaving her home with two Grand Rapids police detectives. She said they talked for a second time.
Police also searched her apartment again on Friday. Conseula Martinez said police were looking for any clues that could break this case.
Jeffrey Malmberg, 40, is the prime suspect in the case. He was arrested hours after the Amber Alert was issued Wednesday afternoon.
He was charged Friday morning with kidnapping Jozlynn and larceny. Police believe he took the girl and stole more than $2,000 from the apartment.
Malmberg has told police where he was when Jozlynn went missing. Investigators have been checking out his alibis.
Malmberg has denied taking the girl.
He said little during his arraignment on Friday.
Judge: "Do you have anything you'd like to say before I set bond in the case."
Malmberg: "No ma'am."
24 Hour News 8 is checking with investigators, court records and family members for further details about this situation. So stay tuned for the latest developments.
