GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The mother of a teenager gunned down in November is "comforted" by the fact a young man confessed to the crime.

Lucia Jeronimo talked with 24 Hour News 8 after a teenager called police early Thursday morning and confessed to shooting Abelino Jeronimo Ramos in the 600 block of Shamrock.

Speaking in Spanish, Jeronimo said she feels "a little better and I feel comforted."

She said she knows her son "didn't make any huge mistakes." She wants police to "ask (the confessed shooter) why he did that, or what happened." She added she "would like to meet him, this person, who killed my son."

She wondered if her son and the confessed shooter were friends. Jeronimo described her 17-year-old son as a "very talkative, happy person, cheerful, good guy all around. A very quiet, nice boy."

Ramos came to the United States from Guatemala seven years ago, Jeronimo said. He was not attending school.

An investigation has been launched to find out exactly what happened in Ramos' November death.

"I know they are going to catch this person who is guilty," Jeronimo said through a translator.
