GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids Police are investigating a house fire that has been deemed suspicious by the Grand Rapids Fire Department.
Nobody was in the home when the sparked about 12:36 a.m. Friday in the 1900 block of Jefferson Avenue SE.
A Grand Rapids fire chief told 24 Hour News 8 that one reason they believe the fire is suspicious is because the residence is a rental and the renters had just been evicted by the homeowner.
It appears that most of the renters' belongings were out of the home, however a couch could be seen in the rubble.
A car and motorcycle parked alongside the home were also destroyed by the fire.
The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene. It took 34 of them about 15 minutes to douse the flames that caused $117,000 in damage to the residence and its contents.
There is no word yet on how the fire started.
