GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Grand Rapids police say a 34-year-old ex-con whose criminal past barred him from owning firearms used a stolen .40-caliber handgun to kill seven people and wound two others before taking his own life.
Police Capt. Jeffrey Hertel says investigators are trying to figure out what motivated Rodrick Dantzler to kill two ex-girlfriends, his 12-year-old daughter and four others related to them Thursday.
The Grand Rapids Press says the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is tracing the gun's history.
A funeral is scheduled Wednesday for Dantzler's 23-year-old ex-girlfriend Kimberlee Emkens, her 27-year-old sister Amanda Emkens and Amanda's 10-year-old daughter Marissa.
A funeral is Thursday for Dantzler's 29-year-old ex-girlfriend Jennifer Heeren, their 12-year-old daughter Kamrie, and Jennifer's parents -- 52-year-old Rebecca and 51-year-old Tom Heeren.
