GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A security guard and three bystanders were shot at a Grand Rapids bar during closing time.
The shooting happened at the New Roosevelt bar, 1447 Grandville Ave. SW, around 2 a.m. Friday.
Bryan Martinez, who was tending bar at the time, said one of the security guards on duty attempted to close the front door after hearing all of the commotion outside, but he was run over by people trying to get out.
"They rushed the security guard. The door came open because there's a push bar on the door and the door came open," Martinez said.
According to Martinez, after the door opened, the shooter outside opened fire on people in the doorway. Police told 24 Hour News 8 that the suspect fired six times, and hit four victims.
A woman was shot in the neck; two men were shot in the leg; and one man was shot in the foot. One victim was driven to a hospital, but the three other victims were left wounded on the floor, according to police.
Contrary to what police said earlier, Martinez told 24 Hour News 8 there was no fight inside of the bar.
The suspect is described as a black male, about 25 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, and seen driving a gray Chevrolet Malibu or a charcoal-colored Pontiac car.
The police are still investigating the case and are following leads.
Witnesses are asked to call the Grand Rapids Police Department at 616.456.3604 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345 if you can help solve this case.
