GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Grand Rapids police are looking for suspects who shot a man twice in the chest early Sunday.
The victim was shot around 3 a.m. in the parking lot of Azucar bar, 645 South Division, according to police.
From there, two men -- who are not suspects in the shooting -- drove the victim to Saint Mary's Health Center, dropping him off on the side of the street.
A witness at the hospital contacted police about the gunshot victim. Officers spotted a vehicle around 3:15 a.m. matching the description of the car that dropped off the victim at the hospital.
When police attempted to pull the vehicle over, it sped away. Officers followed the vehicle until it crashed on Adams Street SE near Eastern Avenue. Police found a gun, along with drugs, inside the vehicle.
The two men in the car fled, but were caught a short time later.
Police told 24 Hour News 8 the two men who dropped off the victim were not involved in the shooting. However, they remain in custody due to unrelated charges.
The shooting victim was in surgery as of 4:30 a.m. His injuries are serious, police said.
An Azucar employee said the shooting happened after the bar had closed for the night. Earlier this week, the Grand Rapids City Commission voted unanimously Tuesday afternoon to recommend the state not renew Azucar's liquor license .
