GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A young man will spend up to 10 more years in prison after a July 4, 2011 shooting at Rosa Parks Circle left two people wounded.
Devotae Collier, who is already serving time on an unrelated charge for shooting a Kentwood youth pastor , will spend between two and 10 years in prison for assault with intent to do great bodily harm, and another two to four years for discharging a firearm.
The night of the shooting, one victim was found by police at the scene. Another victim was found at the hospital. Both people had been shot in the leg.
Police said it was not a random event. Rather, Collier had had some kind of altercation with at least one of the victims before Independence Day, then saw him downtown and opened fire.
The Metropolitan Area Major Case Task Force was able to interview people and gather information about the Fourth of July shooting in a packed Rosa Parks Circle, which helped lead to his arrest.
