GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A judge ruled against River House Condominiums on Monday, deciding would-be condo owners do not have to go through with their purchases.
The owners of the tallest all-residential building in the state tried to sue people who said they could no longer afford to move in.
But attorney Tom Kuipers, who represented 11 of the 14 people sued by developer Robert Grooters, said he proved to Judge Donald Johnston the contracts were not valid.
River House failed to include required language mandated by the State Condominium Act.
Now, River House will have to return the would-be buyers' down payments.
"While we are disappointed with today's ruling, we still believe
we have a case," said Kristen Myers-Chatman, the director of
marketing at River House, in an e-mailed statment. "We are going to
take the next 24 Hours to evaluate our options and will then take
the appropriate steps to move forward."
River House towers 34 stories into the downtown Grand Rapids
skyline, and is located on the Grand River.
