GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Grand Rapids City Commission has agreed to amend its zoning ordinance regarding food trucks in the downtown area.
Commissioners voted Tuesday night, resulting in food trucks being allowed to operate on private property for extended periods of time.
Food trucks generally offer unique varieties of foods. They park in private lots close to downtown during summer months and special events, like ArtPrize.
Traditional brick-and-mortar restaurant owners have opposed allowing the trucks to operate in the city because the trucks create competition for their tax-paying businesses.
