COOS BAY, Ore. (WOOD) - A Grand Rapids couple was injured seriously Saturday after their vehicle hit a tree in Oregon.
The couple was traveling down Highway 101, south of Coos Bay. The driver, 74-year-old Shirley Ann Campbell, might have fallen asleep behind the wheel, said an Oregon State Police trooper.
The accident occurred at around 2:09 p.m. Campbell's vehicle, a 2009 Mazda minivan, traveled off the right side of the highway and head-on into a tree.
Her passenger was 77-year-old Bernard D. Campbell. They were both extracted from the minivan and rushed to a local hospital.
They were wearing seat belts and their airbags went off.
The couple is in stable condition, according to The Salem Times.
