GR man arrested for role in 2008 rape

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A Grand Rapids man was charged Monday for his part in a sexual assault that occurred in April 2008.

Shawn Godfrey played the role of a fake gunman who flagged down a motorcycle for help in Kent County's Tyrone Township, police say. He then allegedly pulled a gun and forced the man and woman on the bike to have sex in the nearby woods at 20 Mile Road and Red Pine.

The twist? The man on the motorcycle, Lee Craddock of Comstock Park, was the mastermind behind the plan.

Craddock, a convicted sex offender, was arrested in October. Police he developed the whole scenario in order to sexually assault the woman, who is one of his relatives.

Both men face life in prison if convicted. Godfrey is being held at the Kent County jail on $125,000 bond.
