GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Fix on I-196 is about 30% complete and on schedule to re-open by early August.
Over the next few weeks, the eastern half of Coit Avenue over I-196 will be removed and new foundations for bridges and retaining walls will be built.
Original concrete is being re-used as a foundation under the future road bed. In a statement, Grand Rapids Transportation Service Center Manager Erick Kind said, "The recycled concrete makes for a perfect working surface and foundation. It's strong enough for the heavy equipment and porous so it acts as a filter unaffected by weather."
All the work is scheduled for completion by late fall.
