GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The shooting death of a man near a Grand Rapids chicken restaurant in the early hours of Oct. 21 may have been a case of self-defense -- though the man suspected in the shooting is in custody on weapons charges.
Thomas Albert-Earl Davis, 31, was arrested in connection to the Oct. 21 death of Terrance Bruce Williams. Williams was shot just before 4 a.m. near the corner of Division Avenue and Franklin Street SE in a parking area near New York Fried Chicken and Franklin Big Save.
Davis is being held on a federal parole violation and faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Assistant Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker told 24 Hour News 8 the case looks like self-defense. He said a video taken from a surveillance camera at New York Fried Chicken shows Williams pointed a gun at Davis, who then pulled out a gun and shot Williams to death.
The prosecutors have not determined yet whether to file charges in the death against Davis.
Davis has a criminal history and did time on gun charges after a fatal gang shoot-out in 2007 which killed high school basketball star Darryl Thompkins.
His bond for the firearms charges was set at $50,000.
