GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Over 1,000 people came out and helped raise awareness and funds for people people with Down syndrome and their families.
The 14th annual Buddy Walk broke records on Saturday and raised $80,000 for local programs that benefit the Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan (DSAWM).
"Today was an incredible day of celebration with friends who want to raise awareness, raise money and raise the hope of a better world for all people with Down syndrome" said Nancy Brozek, Executive Director of the DSAWM. "Once again, the overwhelming support of the West Michigan community has shined through."
This year, the nationwide event had more than 275 Buddy Walks scheduled. October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
