GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - This is the timeline of the disappearance and death of 2-year-old Jozlynn Martinez from her Grand Rapids home.
Monday, Feb. 22:
Jozlynn dies in home at 915 Nagold St. NW. Mom's boyfriend, Jeffrey Malmberg, later tells police he carried her body 2 blocks east to a Dumpster in the area of Stocking Avenue and Fourth Street NW.
Tuesday, Feb. 23:
Mom, Consuela Martinez, wakes to discover daughter missing, believes she is with Malmberg. She calls police about noon, after also noticing money missing.
Wednesday, Feb. 24:
Amber Alert is issued; police say girl is missing. Malmberg wanted on warrant charging him with kidnapping and with stealing $2,800 from girlfriend's purse.
Wednesday evening:
Police arrest Malmberg in Lansing. Child not found.
Thursday and Friday, Feb. 25-26:
Police search Waste-to-Energy plant on Market Street SW after Malmberg tells them he had dumped Jozlynn's body in a Dumpster. Find nothing.
Friday, Feb. 26:
Malmberg arraigned on kidnapping, larceny charges, held on $1 million bond.
Friday:
Police announce they believe Jozlynn is dead.
Saturday, Feb. 27: Malmberg tells girlfriend that Jozlynn died after an accidental fall down stairs.
Thursday, March 4: Malmberg charged with second-degree murder
Monday, October 4: Trial begins for Malmberg.
Monday, October 11: Malmberg found guilty of second-degree murder, tampering with evidence and larceny more than $1,000.
