GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The City of Grand Rapids, which distributes water and collects sewage for city residents and a number of suburbs, is reducing rates charged to customers.

Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the new rates Tuesday morning.

Cheaper contracts for construction work, lower interest rates and staff reductions will result in a 6.3 % reduction in water rates and 3.3% for sewer rates.

The new rates go into effect early next year.
