GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Of the 15 eighth-grade students who attend Our Savior Lutheran School, nine have reported flu-like symptoms after returning from a class trip.

The eighth-graders left Monday morning for Mackinaw Island. They were supposed to return to Grand Rapids on Wednesday evening, but instead made the return trip early Wednesday morning due to the illness. The class arrived home at 1:30 p.m.

The Our Savior Lutheran School principal said the students might have been sick as they left for the trip.

Students have reported symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.

To prevent the flu from spreading, the eighth-graders will be excused from school until Tuesday.

Whether the students will be tested to confirm the exact illness is unknown.
