GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., (WOOD) - Duane Faust envisions a multi-billion dollar development along the Grand River that would bring thousands of jobs to town.
Again.
It's been nearly four years since Faust came to Grand Rapids city officials with a project that came to be titled River Grand. That plan dwarfs in comparison to his new idea.
This time, the project would replace the public works yard along Market Avenue with apartments, condos, stores, office space and theaters, all powered by a hydrogen energy plant. You could walk along the river, but if you want to get away, you could hop on the subway that would take riders on a 34-mile loop from downtown to Cascade to Byron Center and back.
This plan is more detailed than the three-page plan Faust submitted to the city in 2007. But this time, the city is more guarded.
"We're happy to speak with Mr. Faust if he were to call us or write us," City Manager Greg Sundstrom told 24 Hour News 8. "But so far, we've had no contact with him."
One of the groups Faust claims is a partner on the project denies that.
