GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Amway has settled a lawsuit against a Grand Rapids man who the company says is illegally selling its products on the Internet auction site eBay.
Ken Hankinson is one of three people sued by Amway in federal court. The company claims the three bought products in bulk from legitimate Amway sellers and then resold them as individual products on eBay -- a form of sale that is prohibited by Amway in its contracts with distributors.
Amway claims the reselling is a form of copyright infringement.
Amway filed documents in federal court requesting the suit against Hankinson be dismissed.
24 Hour News 8 was told the dismissal follows a settlement agreement that includes a provision that Hankinson no longer sells Amway products online.
When reached for comment, Hankinson told 24 Hour News 8 he is "glad that this has come to and end and that we can put it behind us."
The lawsuit against Brian and Natalie Schirle of Oregon is still pending.
