6 people hurt in car-truck collision

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Six people were injured, at least one critically, after a car collided with a cargo truck at a Grand Rapids intersection early Monday morning.

Teenagers from Byron Center High School were involved in the crash, 24 Hour News 8 confirmed.

There were five people in a station wagon driven by Cody Burgess, a parent from Byron Center told 24 Hour News 8. They were headed south on Eastern Avenue when Burgess allegedly did not stop at a flashing red traffic signal, police said in a news release.

The station wagon collided with an Oven Fresh truck headed east on 28th Street.

The truck driver was alone in the truck. He was treated and released at a hospital.

But two of the rear seat passengers in the station wagon are listed in critical condition. One of them is Caitlin Hendren, 24 Hour News 8 confirmed.

Burgess and Tyler Ritsema were treated and released at a Saint Mary's Hospital.

The names and conditions of the other passengers are not available at this time.

Investigators said speed and alcohol are not factors in the crash.
