GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The 20th annual Turkey Trot - a fundraiser for GRPS athletic programs - will have a new route and a stadium finish, organizers announced Monday.
The course for the Thanksgiving Day 5K Walk-Run will begin at Van Andel Arena, go across the Sixth Street Bridge, through Ah-Nab-Awen Park and then back to the arena where the finish line will be inside.
"It should look like fans screaming and cheering, an Olympic-style finish for all the runners," said Kurt Johnson of GRPS. "We want it to be memorable."
The 5K is scheduled for 8 a.m., with a 1K mini-trot set for 8:40 a.m.
Registration for the Turkey Trot continues. It's $25 before Thanksgiving and $30 the day of the race. Pre-registration packet pick-up will be available on Nov. 21 at Union High School between noon and 7 p.m.
