GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The city's budget for next year takes effect July 1, and City Manager Greg Sundstrom said Grand Rapids will change the way it does business.
Most of the tough decisions, such as cutting 175 jobs from the city payroll, were made last year. The new budget will define what services the city will deliver and how they'll do it with less money.
Sundstrom is proposing using $32 million in tax revenues from a five-year hike in the income tax to fund part of the transformation.
He added the money raised by the income tax hike will still fund additional firefighters and police officers.
